Can I volunteer if I am on benefits?
There are usually no limits on the amount of time you can volunteer as long as you continue to meet the conditions of the benefit or tax credit you are receiving. Please contact your Benefits Office, (see their website for more details) as rules can change.
Will I need a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check?
If you will be volunteering directly with children and vulnerable adults then you will need an enhanced CRB check. The LINk will pay for this and organise it.
How old do I need to be to volunteer?
There are no ages limits set for LINk volunteers. If you are under 18 years old then the LINk will need consent from your parent or guardian.
How much time do I have to have to volunteer for?
The LINk has many volunteer opportunities, some are regular ongoing, others short term and some may be for one off events. We will work with you to find the most suitable role for you.
Will I get paid?
No, the LINk agreed that no one in the LINk will receive payment. All volunteers can receive out-of-pocket expenses including travel, carers costs, meals and drinks. When you volunteer you will receive guidance on the LINk Expenses policy and claim forms. Wherever possible we try to pay cash.
Will I get training in my volunteer role?
Yes, we encourage LINk volunteers to participate in training and offer and pay for a number of courses to help volunteers in their roles.
Do I need qualifications to volunteer?
No, but for some roles we ask that you have relevant experience.
What support will I get as a volunteer?
We will provide an induction, offer relevant free training and all the resources you need in your role. We aim to make volunteering with the LINk as easy as possible. Read more...
