"If we are to meet the needs of children and young people it is vital that we listen to them in designing services, gather information on their experiences and priorities, and involve them in decision making."Department of Health 2010
Children and young people are a priority group for LINk, they have different health issues and different needs. We are working in partnership with children and young people’s organisations across Brighton and Hove. Recently a group of young people were consulted by the Nation Children’s Bureau. They were asked their views about the NHS. 1) They are concerned that the agenda of HealthWatch is not dominated by adult issues. Good practice from involving young people in Local Involvement Networks (LINks) should be used. 2) They felt that the expertise of young people is needed in all types of monitoring of commissioned health services. Young people are best placed to spot issues that will affect their age group. We have been meeting with young people’s groups and hearing their views about health services. We plan to set up a Children and Young People’s Health Forum to shape our work with 0-25 year olds. If you are under 25 and would like to get involved, please let us know!
